Rainy days

May 11th, 2010 by J

It is really hard to get up in the morning when you are all snuggled up under the covers and the rain is coming down with that soothing pat-pat-pat.  It made me get up all late.  Still raining out…I want to go back to bed.

The Baker Weather Service is now official!!!

April 11th, 2010 by J

skywarnWell it is official.  Sarah and I have finally become Skywarn weather spotters.  We can now bug the NWS if we see hail the size of plain M&M’s or larger, funnel clouds, tornadoes, bad flooding,  wind gusts over 40 mph and weather related damage.  I also learned that I was reading the base reflectivity radar correctly (polite golf clap) and I learned how to read the base velocity radar ..so now  I can really bug my friends and relatives whenever we get nasty thunderstorms.

South Park is Awesome!

If you have not seen the current episode of south park You have 0 friends…go watch it now…go watch it now now!!!  If ever there was a commentary about how I feel about facebook this is it.  I am Stan in this episode.  Quite seriously the writers nailed this one right on the head.  Plus the Tron part was an added bonus.  Now go watch it!

Star Trek TOS

April 1st, 2010 by J

LOL!!!!   I have been watching the original Star Trek series on you tube lately and I must say they are freaking hilarious.  What Star Trek TOS is missing in technology it makes up for in humor and I am sure some of it is not intended but because these episodes are over 40 years old they are so campy they are funny.   If you have the chance sit down and start watching them from season 1 episode 1.  LOL!!!!   BTW:  Star Trek TNG will always be my favorite and my favorite character will always be “Q”!!!!

Productivity Measurement

February 10th, 2010 by J

Productivity for me is measured by the mess currently found on my desk. I have several levels of productivity by the tiers of papers, books, post-its, pens, pencils, coffee mugs, food droppings, and yes even computers.  Let me give you a quick rundown of the levels of productivity starting from least productive (level 1) all the way up to productivity awesome (level 5).

Level 1:  Barely working on item…procrastination.   Desk Status:  Pad of paper and pen but otherwise clean.

Level 2:  Working on item slowly but not caring if it gets done.   Desk Status:  Pad of paper written on, 2 pens, coffee

Level 3:  Starting to get focused on work, still unsure I care if it gets done.  Desk Status:  See above + book on topic

Level 4:  Working on something understanding that it needs to get done.  Desk Status: See above + 3 more books some star charts, journal papers, a stapler, random item like hair clip

Level 5:  This is the holy shit I have to get it done phase.  Desk Status: Dr. Berger’s office.

For those of you who need clarification on the Dr. Berger’s office let me just put it this way deskageddon.  Dr. Berger was one of the professors at my undergraduate university (since moved on) who is brilliant in her field but her office was just a mess.  You could not walk into her office without stepping on papers or running into stacks of something.  It wasn’t just confined to a small area it was everywhere.  I think there might have been some lost grad students under stacks somewhere.  So when I say desk status: Dr. Berger’s office I mean you can’t see my desk and stuff is creeping onto the floor and making a path toward the door.  I do not achieve this level often.  It happened once when I wrote my masters thesis and a few times when I took finals.  Right now I believe I may be at level 3 but that may soon change.
